Thanks for the quick reply and the great tool.


Changing to utf-8 solves the problem (not sure what is the difference between 
utf-8 and UTF-8 though).

The problem happens only when I try to export the to LaTeX (or view another 
format which does implicitly export to LaTeX).

For UTF-8, I get an empty file exported...

Not sure yet how we got into this situation, the files have been imported from  
the lyx 1.4.5 format.
