Thanks Martin, for your answer. It took me a while to try this out, because I updated to LyX 1.5.1 in the meantime and had fatal problems (pdflatex not working, unfixable charset errors, and wrong PDF previews), then I tried 1.5.0 and now I am back at 1.4.4.
At least your pointer brings me forward a good step. I was not aware of the "external material" option so far. The preview does not work; the included background image is not found ("No such picture file: /tmp/lyx_tmpdir26233cNPzSl/gx.png") and the special text appears verbatim. However, the final PDF looks fine. I should stay with 1.4.4 for my thesis (which I have to finish soon) and try the then-current LyX version later and report any remaining problems. (Or even work on them.) Thanks a lot again! Greetings, Hans
