Convention: There's a sort of LaTeX convention with '\listXXXname' commands. Conventions are good :) 2. Translation: Babel translates names for standard lists (toc, lof, lot), but cannot be aware of every list one wishes to use. For the same reason, LyX neither (even though it is currently aware of loa while babel isn't...). 3. Customization: Customizing list names is already possible for other lists, so why shouldn't this be possible for algorithms and other non standard floats? 4. Reuse: The '\listXXXname' commands could be reused elsewhere for some other purpose (e.g. referencing...). 5. Same default behaviour: This is transparent for the user who doesn't need customization.
