Currently, the only way is to close and reopen the document. LyX lets you enter latex commands in the preamble, but offer no further support for them.
One way would be to have a "re-render all math" button in the preamble editor dialog. File a enhancement request on bugzilla.lyx.org if you care much for this. Helge Hafting
