Attached is an example I cut down to something simple. I hope you accept attachments otherwise I will put it on one of my sites.
Overview: Older versions of LyX can create a DVI file of this example.Newer versions such as 1.4.4 and later cannot and output a lot of missing delimiters.
I am very good at LaTeX and can fix this myself if I understood the LyX syntax and if there were a command-line LyX compiler with the same debug as LaTeX which i can just interpret and the fix the source in emacs. I guess you are just using a wrapper for LaTeX compiler to add LyX formating macros anyway?
The problem is that I have hundreds of LyX files that cannot be processed with the newer LyX versions anymore and that creates some headaches for me.
Also note that I used a STANDARD template Din-brief_en.I would appreciate it if someone can tell me why the backward-compatibility is broken.
