Abdel, the attached files seem to be working just fine for me, I don't

at all, would be very font-dependent.
Yes, the things that my patch take care of is the left and right bearing
of the first and last characters of a word. This is important when using
italic Times with latin characters for example: words starting with
italic 'y' or ending with italic 'f' need to be take the left and right
bearing of these letters.
But I tried this with English,
Hebrew and Arabic, and it all looks okay.
Didn't test the speed at all, but that's never bothered me too much...
