That's normal, the development happened on my branch. If you do:

or something like that, you should be able to compile it without
having to retrieve the full branch. Or you could just replace the
two attached files in your tree. Sorry I don't remember how to make
a patch from my branch to trunk.
But then on Intel Macs there hasn't been a real speed problem in
the last few months. Should I test something else? (I might be
able to test a PPC Mac tonight.)
Typing as fast as you can in captions or in equations is the real
test. I seem to remember that the foot note implements the wide()
hack so this is not really a good test.
OK -- I did this. I still don't see any speedup with captions or
equations, but then I didn't have a problem on my Intel Mac
previously. Even watching the CPU usage of LyX as I drummed my
fingers on the keyboard as fast as I could revealed no difference
with your branch. (The real speed problems on Mac are for PPC Mac,
and the slowness is there even for ordinary text.)
