I was using it for a while before I was told about the siunits package. I still use it sometimes. Please don't forbid that :) I agree with empty math insets dissolving, but I'm abstaining on an inset that only has a "\ ". Maybe in that case the space should be displayed like a protected blank in the main text - little red underline thing. You wouldn't miss it then :) Have fun, Darren
