Actually, I tested it. As I had changed the background colours, I saw flashing colours all around when I moved the cursor over a math inset.
mathbg and mathhoverbg are the same as background. If you set them to flashing colors, that is your problem. The only change to the default behavior is the showing of corners, which can hardly be called flashing. Bo
