Bennett,

I downloaded and installed this rc1 version of LyX 1.5.0 on my Mac PPC running OS X 10.4.9 and I noticed it runs much slower than beta2 (which I had compiled myself). I also noticed that the file size of rc1 (67.1 MB) was much bigger than beta2 (38.1 MB).

So I downloaded the source code for rc1 and compiled it following the downloaded instructions, and it runs fine (not slow). Its file size is 39.2 MB. Could it be that the binary version on ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/LyX-1.5.0rc1-Mac.dmg is compiled using development rather than production switches?

The file size is much bigger because it's now a universal application -- for both PPC and Intel Macs. Aside from that, it was compiled according to the instructions in INSTALL.MacOSX (though cross-compiled on my Intel Mac). I don't know what would explain the difference with the version you compiled yourself.

What configure options did you use?
