Too subtle indeed ;-) Both of these sound fine to me: No document (is) open No documents (are) open I think I side with Richard on this one. I too prefer the singular. These sound fine too, but the emphasis feels a little different. I don't think I can put in words why I prefer the "No document open" flavour. I tried ;-) No opened document No opened documents If you forced me to choose, I'd prefer the plural one of these. And, for completeness and to satisfy André: Zero documents open Using a singular here would just be wrong. Angus
