I see it like that: the current solution was easy to implement, is
robust and does not have that many drawbacks. I really doubt it would
be worth implementing the same through session. Imagine: you set up
carefully your insets to be as you like and sent the document to your
co-author; then he cuts-and-pastes a few thing; what is the session
data structure that will allow LyX to recognize the right insets and
set their status. It looks like a formidable work for a minuscule
result.
