I don't really want to publish a partly done thesis but I don't think it
has anything to do with the particular document. I think you just have
to do a lot of (a particular kind of) editing.
You could probably start editing the user guide at random and get it to
slow down.
I use 1.5.0svn everyday and I never got it to slow down on Windows.
