Two big things:
1. computer algebraic system. Not a big deal but some people like it a
lot.
LyX have had that for quite some time already:
1. Install such a system (maxima, octave, mathematica, maple)
2. Start LyX, enter a formula.
3. With the cursor inside the formula, go "edit->math->computer algebra
system"
For example, LyX (with the help of Maxima) just told me that
d/dx x^y happens to be yx^(y-1)
Now perhaps this ought to be on the math toolbar, seeing how most
people don't know this. . .
