Martin, Thanks for the help! (Also to Jean-Marc.)
I think we should think carefully about the dependence on this package for 1.5.0. There will be people who are used to LyX working on their system who try out the 1.4 or 1.5 series and can't work this out on their own. You could (nay should?) blame the distro for that but when I look inside the file "prettyref.sty" it is so damn simple I wonder why it can't be re-implemented (by somebody else who knows how it works...). There are already some files in /usr/share/lyx/tex on my system and I presume they are created when LyX is installed. If LyX came with a compatible (and guaranteed free) re-implementation, then we wouldn't have such license difficulties breaking the whole thing. Of course the 1.3 series seemed to work fine without it and it had similar functionality, is it possibly better to handle this in LyX instead? Bare minimum, I think there needs to be the below advice in the documentation as it's going to be a common problem which confounds a lot of non-LaTeX people out there. You may also have to reconfure and restart LyX. (I didn't have to reconfigure or restart LyX... it just worked from then on.)
