> Been there, switched to Lyx.
I WOULD BE CURIOUS TO KNOW WHY.

1. I mostly use linux for scientific computing and later on for
writing, and there is no linux version of SWP. I know you might not
care, but there are such people in this world as non-windows users.

2. The latex output, even the so called portable ones, can not be
compiled directly elsewhere. I have been told that I need to bring
some file called sciword.sty (or that sort) along with my .tex file,
but again I find that the .wmf figures are not at all portable. Also,
because I get a .wmf each time I paste a figure which is not removed
when I remove the figure, I can not figure out what .wmf files are in
use after a while.

3. I had a few huge formulas and I accidentally deleted them. Undo did
not bring them back.

4. I can not define more shortcuts beyond what is provided. I can
define automatic substitution strings, but I did not like the feature
at that time.

5. SWP chargs > $600 from poor graduate students and lyx is free. I
heard that SWP is now renewed year by year, using a complicated
machine-specific license validation system. This alone would drive me
away.

Maybe most of my complaints are caused by an ancient version of SWP
and my own style of work, but I have been a happy lyxer for 5 years
and will never look back.

Cheers,
Bo
