Why that? The official name for this is "Glossary" and is used in all
my books I have?

Well, there was some discussion before in which people expressed their
concerns regarding the inconsistent use of the terms "Glossary" and
"Nomenclature".
Please note that LaTeX will produce a "glossary" with the title
"Nomenclature" (try it out if you don't believe). Therefore, there is NO
reason to call the thing produced by package nomencl.sty a "glossary". OK?
