The more serious proposal made by me some months ago is to rename pre(-releases) to rc (release candidate), a name used more commonly used by other projects. IMHO we use pre for historical reasons.

I'd don't have much of an opinion here, as long as we decide on a scheme.

What do we call the CVS/SVN version so that normal users can relate?
'unstable'? 'Development snapshop'?
