Thanks for the explanations. I won't have much time to comment now, in
particular because I will be in vacation next week and I go to some
meeting tomorrow that requires some preparation.

I few comments though: why do you move stuff from output_latex.C to
paragraph? Aren't we supposed to do the opposite and move most stuff
to output_latex.C?
I didn't know there was a preference, but it'd be easy enough to do it the other way. In fact, it had occurred to me that the division between simpleTeXOnePar and TeXOnePar wasn't well motivated. So the former could simply vanish and be completely absorbed by the latter.
Also, it would be easier to separate the bug fix from the code
cleanup, unless you can justify that the code cleanup is part of the
fix. This code for generating LaTeX is hard to get right because there
are so many combinations.
Yes, I had thought of that, too, but the code cleanup is central to the bug fix. Basically, what is needed is a way to make sure all the paragraph parameters get output at the same time, and in the right place. And so most of the cleanup involves grouping that stuff together.
