No. Simply add xampl.bib without any path. But this is nothing LyX should try to solve. There should be a pointer to the LaTeX documentation. Users who use LyX seriously will need that sooner or later, so we are not doing them a favor if we try to hide that fact. IMHO the best variant is to use xampl.bib, and explain in a note in the template that this is a system file and that it should be replaced with an own file if needed. Optionally, point to the place where the kpsewhich mechanism is explained. Georg
