great, it's back again!
testing it i found another issue:
sorry, i forgot the essential step:
Ctrl+m
enter the formula xx_2
position the cursor between the two x
insert a subscript without contents (i.e. press _ )
now subsequently press right -> the cursor jumps forward and backward
around the second x until it leaves the formula.
