A test here gives the same result. It seems that there is no other influence on the behavior of the file save dialog.
I wonder what you led you to that change ;-)

Absolutely sure, no, but I did test it pretty extensively. So I'm pretty

When I go to save a file---save I choose save as---I get all the
directories and file names in the dialog on a single line, with most of
the dialog box empty. This is on FC6. Can anyone confirm this?

If I comment out the line dlg.setFileMode(QFileDialog::AnyFile), then
the dialog looks as expected, but, oddly enough, it works as expected,
too. So it would seem this is a QT bug. (I'm using 4.2.3-3 from the
kde-redhat folks.) Anyway, the attached patch solves the problem for me.

I have that behavior here too with qt 4.2.3, but in WinXP. I definitly
saw it the first time with this version of qt and i think we have to
blame it for that. But it does not always happen. I cannot tell you
when. So are you sure that this patch fixes it or did it just not
happen because of some other unknown reason?
