Yes... I think I reported a Fedora 4 problem: in the absence of a fall-back script when logging in over ssh (and thus without any desktop environment), firefox is used to open dvi files :-( I posted a bug on this to freedesktop. One suggestion I received was, that a mechanism should be implemented where desktop environments set an X property that allows, also in remote logins, to sense the _local_ DE. Let's see what comes of that.
