Insert a \root. The cursor is now in the blue box up and in front of the root sign. Insert another \root there, and another ... till you have a nice stack. Observe how mathed don't make enough room for this, so the stack of roots break through whatever is above them. It will overlap the lines above, for example.

Contrast with what happens when you make a big stack of square roots (not n-root) or a stack of fractions. They always get enough room around themselves.
