I've currently not much time, so I cannot have a closer look until the next
weekend.
1. Joost and Uwe: Why do you guys prefer ; instead of # for comments?
Do you mind if I change ; to #?
What would be the advantage, I think we both use ; so why changing this?
2. Uwe. what are the benefits of running iniexmf and mpm after miktex
is installed?
This is needed to install the LaTeX-class and style files that comes with LyX; broadway, hollywood,
etc.. On uninstalling this is needed again.
3. Poll: is it a good idea to ask users to upgrade miktex after it is
installed?
I absolutely vote yes. Bug 3262 is a good example how this helps to avoid bugs:
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3262
There was a bug in MiKTeX that lead to broken cofigure.py runs that is now fixed. But people can
only benefit from this when they update MiKTeX.
There are usually a lot bugfixes and updates available between different releases that justifies an
update. Users who don't want to update can click NO. The idea for this came from the MiKTeX
developer while we discussed the beta versions of MiKTeX 2.5. From the feedback I got this is useful
because only a minority of the users know how to update MiKTeX and that there is a special update
wizard.

MiKTeX is now very stable and thanks to Christian Schenk, the MiKTeX developer in some fields
especially developed for our needs. Most of the updates are updates to LaTeX-classes, not to MiKTeX
itself. When there was changed something to MiKTeX I never had the case that this introduces new
bugs. (This is in contrast to e.g. ImageMagick where every second release (re)introduces bugs; OK
I'm a bit harsh here ;-) )

The last days were hard: Since the release of LyX 1.4.4 I wrote now over 100 emails to give support.
Besides two bugs in my installer, that are now fixed, I noticed the following open bugs with the
official installer:
- lyxc.exe crashes (unfortunately I couldn't reproduce this)
- LyX's menu language set in the installer is not used. Instead of e.g. the set
German, English is
used.
- the math fonts are not uninstalled when uninstalling LyX therefore they can
couse some troubles
when installing a new LyX version.
- Adobe Reader 8 chrashes when viewing PDFs (this is the well know bug we spoke
about, I fixed this
with the PDFViewWin8.exe that is in SVN)
