Hi,
I have spend a couple of hours trying to install the new LyX 1.4.4 on
Windows XP. After unistalling LyX 1.4.3 and MikTeX, I have countless of
times try to install LyX 1.4.4 using the official installer, both the bundle
and the small installer. Every time it crashes with a message about
"lyxc.exe" crashing. I have uninstalled the failed installations of LyX and
MikTeX in between the new attempts, and tried both "Yes" and "ask me first"
for the installation on-the-fly in MikTeX.
Finally, after this ordeal, I tried to install LyX 1.4.4 twice using the
LyXWinInstaller provided by Uwe Stöhr. On the second time I at last
succeeded. If I recall correctly I used Yes" on the failed installation and
"ask me first" for the second suceeded installation, for the installation
on-the-fly option in MikTeX.
I the user's list there are several other users experiencing the same
problems with the official installer.
