In theory? Yes.

In practise it would probably require even less than two weeks full time
as LyX has less compile time dependencies than that project at work.
However, I doubt that'd be significantly more than I spent on LyX work
during the whole 1.5 cycle...

[Things may improve a bit when we get DSL. It's on the way already...]

However, I do not really think we need that. Distros are fairly good at
pulling what they need...
