Note that another problem for packaging is that we should not let
version 1.4.3 die as soon as 1.4.4 is released (because there can be
regressions). So shall we keep the packages that are known to work
for 1.4.3 once we have a new list for 1.4.4? Or shall we duplicate
these packages and let the mirrors use their disk space?
I doubt the support applications will have changed a lot between 1.4.3 and
1.4.4. However, let's see what sizes we are talking about here. The
bundled installer is about 70 MB, so let's say a requirement of 0.1 GB per
release of LyX (worst case). How much of a problem would that be?
Actually, that should probably be an additional 0.1 GB per release, as we
will always keep a version of the bundled installer, won't we?
The problem of making a full LyX-based distribution for windows leads to
some particular problems. The fact of being able to install an older LyX
version is important in my eyes.
I agree, it should definitely be possible to install an old version.
However, we could say that in order to install an older version they have
to use a bundled installer?
