To come to a decision I propose the following:

1. Joost continues the official installer as it is. He has always had some nice ideas to push LyX on Windows forward! I only have one wish: Joost, could you announce your solutions to the list please? I'm always interested in the Windows stuff and of course want to know exactly how you for example implemented that lyx.bat is no longer needed.

2. I continue on my bundle installer and put it on SVN. LyXWinInstaller is indeed more a full featured LyX-distribution than only a LyX installer. Joost's installer is very small and so exactly the installer that was requested in this thread. This leads to 3.

3. When a new LyX is released the official "LyX-installer" as well as the "LyX-distribution" (the then former LyXWinInstaller) is announced. I think this would be a nice thing because long term LyX users don't need the bundle I prepare but want to have a small as possible LyX installer that can therefore also be installed without admin permissions and that's what Joost installer already is. For new users and companies the LyX-distribution might be more convenient. We would then have a portfolio no other word processor have! We only have to assure that this doesn't lead to confusions but this is only a matter we formulate the announcements.

4. I don't think we can merge the code base to generate the LyX-distribution _and_ the LyX-Installer but this isn't really a problem I think. We both are following different approaches so the code is of course different in many parts.

What do you think?

---

For the discussion itself I think I was misunderstood:

It was not my intention to touch the official installer or to make mine
official!

I just wanted to put my stuff to SVN so that everybody can have a look at it when there are problems. I haven't started a thread about my SVN upload because I didn't plan to change anything else then my installer.

I would really like to have my code back again to SVN but only if everybody agrees and in suitable place; in a branch, tree or wherever you like.

best regards
Uwe
