It seems that lyx 1.5 doesn't support child documents with spaces.
E.g. try opening
http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~john/lyx/parent.lyx
in LyX 1.5.0svn and 1.4.4svn. In 1.5 the child will be incorrectly
called "child". In 1.4 the child will be correctly called "child doc".
Is this still true with latest svn? Bernhard Roider fixed this
yesterday.
I guess I should have been more explicit: the symptom is different
from the problem reported yesterday. Previously I could load the file
but typesetting would fail because LyX generated the wrong LaTeX file
-- truncating the child document filenames after the first space.
Seeing Bernhard's reported patch, I tried again, but this time LyX
crashes on attempting to load the file. (It's a file that 1.4 loads
and typesets with no problem.)
I'm not sure if the crash is caused by Bernhard's patch or whether
it's a separate issue, but it was definitely caused by changes since
yesterday afternoon. (And it is still present with current svn --
updated this morning.)

Hell Bennett,
do you have an example file that causes the crash?

oh, i lost an o!
