Abdel,
Thanks for your quick follow-through. Sorry about the mistake in my
report,
\left( a + b + c \left)
should have been
\left( a + b + c \right)
The problem remains the same. Selecting it with the mouse (instead
of the keyboard) is often needed when I want to extract only part of
an earlier equation into a new one. Since I scroll up with the mouse
to find the earlier equation, it makes sense to use the mouse for
selecting the part that I need.
Regarding bug reports I submitted a report on 2006-04-25 (bug 2537)
which got split into two (2541 and 2542) and, as far as I can tell,
they have not been resolved yet.

Bennett and Abdel,
Thanks to both of you for your earlier help regarding LyX 1.4 on
Mac Intel. I have had a chance to test 1.5.0svn and here are some
of my observations (see below), in case you find them helpful.
Many of these problems are carry-overs from 1.4.x, and while none
are critical bugs, they are sufficiently problematic that I cannot
bring myself to moving up from 1.3.7 yet. I am a heavy user of
the math mode in LyX (I actually derive my equations directly in
LyX, not on paper first) and I had found 1.3.7 to work well for
that. I hope that the same functionality can be restored in 1.5.
Hello Gerard,
I put lyx-devel in copy because these are real bug-report.
Thanks,
Gerard

Bugs in 1.5.0svn Mac/Intel:
- Scrollbar:
Clicking on the scrollbar advances the page by only a few lines,
whereas one would expect it to advance by more than 3/4 of the
window height. For example, open the LyX User's Guide from the
Help menu and check it out. This problem started with 1.4.x
(1.3.7 is fine).
Confirmed. This is easily modifiable, any objection if I do that?
- Placing the cursor in an equation, between a fraction and bracket:
If a fraction precedes a bracket, e.g.,
\frac{a}{b} \left( x+y \right)
it is not possible to place the cursor with a mouse click between
the fraction and the bracket (this applies to the onscreen display
mode of this equation of course). In other words, placing the
cursor at the location indicated with * is not possible:
\frac{a}{b} * \left( x+y \right)
Any attempts to place the cursor there will put it either here
\frac{a*}{b} \left( x+y \right)
or here
\frac{a}{b*} \left( x+y \right)
or here
\frac{a}{b} \left(*x+y \right)
This is a serious limitation for those of us who do a lot of math
editing in LyX. It started in 1.4.x (did not occur in 1.3.7).
Confirmed. Setting the cursor at this position is impossible with
the mouse. It is still possible with the keyboard though.
- Placing the cursor anywhere in an equation: The cursor will
first jump to the start of the equation, then move back where you
placed it. This slows down the user interface. (This is
exclusive to 1.5.0svn, did not happen in 1.4.x or 1.3.7)
Confirmed and already known problem.
- Selecting an expression in brackets in an equation:
When an expression is bracketed, for example,
\left( a + b + c \left)
Pasting this into an equation gives a strange on-screen
representation of this equation: (a+b+c) followed by an empty
blue square followed by three empty space...
the mouse selection of the entire expression (including the
brackets) is inconsistent from left-to-right and right-to-left.
When starting from the left and moving right, the mouse has to
move over the entire expression before it gets selected
(highlighted). When starting from the right and moving left, the
selection occurs instantly, without moving much. This behavior
also started in 1.4.x and is inconsistent with 1.3.7, where the
mouse cursor has to move halfway across the bracketed expression
(either left to right or right to left) before the entire
expression is selected. This is also a major limitation when
doing extensive math editing.
Confirmed, selecting something with the mouse in this equation is
really weird. But again, it seems to work fine with keyboard (using
the arrow keys). And by the way, why do you want to use the mouse
for this?
- Changes to LyX -> Preferences -> Screen Fonts -> Zoom do not
occur immediately after Save/Apply/Close. You have to click back
into the main window and do something first (e.g., move arrow keys
or type something) before the change becomes implemented.
(Exclusive to 1.5.0svn.)
I think this is a known bug, I'll look at it.
Thanks for the report Gerard, perhaps you could consider putting
those in bugzilla?
Abdel.
