Hmm... I logged in to aussie and as far as I can see it looks ok.
* There is a catalog /home/uwestoehr
* There is an entry in /etc/passwd
What happens if you su to his account from root, i.e do this:
[localhost ~] ssh lasgouttes @ aussie.lyx.org # ssh to aussie
[lasgottes @ aussie ~] su - # Become root
# su - uwestoehr # Become Uwe
Does this work? If you know do:
[uwestoehr @ aussie ~] pwd
you should be in his home catalog etc.
Alternatively, can you do this to become Uwe?
[localhost ~] ssh lasgouttes @ aussie.lyx.org # ssh to aussie
[lasgottes @ aussie ~] su uwestoehr # Become Uwe
