What I want is actually very simple:

1. clipboard, selection separation
2. explicit C-c, C-v for system clipboard operations. lyx can use
internal clipboards, but simple C-c, C-v should work from an user's
point of view.
3. mouse selection and middle-button paste.

I do not really care about extra ways (2,3,4 from Abdel) to fill the
selection buffer, but they make sense since they are selection set by
mouse. Both of you have some valid points on whether or not keyboard
selection should set selection buffer and I have no opinion on that.

I do want selection -> left button click -> middle button click to
paste (persistent selection as I am seeing now in firefox/linux) but
this is of secondary importance.
