We'll find out if Georg finds the time to see what happens when
commenting out this call.

Hi!
Note that Guy and I are now able to confirm that the problem *does* in
fact have to do with environment variables (see the threads "Reversed
words in Bidi --- the culprit" from last night, and "Re: Bidi support in
Lyx 1.5 svn" from this morning). So that should be taken into account
when trying to solve this issue --- just as another clue to what's
causing the trouble...
