Hi , all LyX developers.
I am currently using LyX to write part of my PhD thesis. I say part
because I also use Scientific Workplace (http://www.mackichan.com) - a
comercial package for Windows only that has a similar purpose to LyX.
LyX is better for me because it runs on Unix platforms, but SW has
currently more features (what the heck they are being payed for it,
right? ). Nevertheless, I would like to share the files I write between
both packages. So my which list is:
1) to be able to select LaTeX as the native fileformat for LyX:
I know this has been postponed possibly forever, but I am not saying to
entirely replace the LyX file format, just to be able to switch in order
to avoid keeping two formats of the same document when sharing files
with others.
2) to be able to perform mathematical calculations and ploting
in-place, such as Scientific Workplace:
SW uses the Maple or Mathematica engines to perform calculations by
translating the mathematical formulas to the formats accepted by those
engines. This would be _very_ nice to have on LyX, possibly by using
Octave and GNUplot.
3) to have LyX running for several platforms (Linux, Solaris, Windows)
by using GUI tools such as wxWindows (http://www.wxwindows.org)which
provides native look-and-feel on each platform and is highly supported
and documented.
4) to have translations for European Portuguese
No ofense to anyone, but we like Brazillian portuguese as much as
british speakers like american english.
It just sounds awkward and with inappropriate terms. Sorry :-(
You are probably saying I must be crazy to ask for all this, because It
involves to much work, right?
Well, ... I agree and unfortunately I will not be able to contribute at
the moment, not before I finish my PhD.
It is just a wish list.
Best regards
