As told cvs does not log _anything_ ever.
I just tried a
cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/lyx/cvsroot login
here and it just worked.
There must be something else that is wrong.
what does "host [EMAIL PROTECTED]" give you?
fresh shell, different user?
