I like the minibuffer... especially for debugging, and I know I used it 
for other stuff as well (creating/testing command sequences for instance).

I would like to keep the shortcut, but maybe someone can explain what the 
problem is with keeping 'M-x' as a keyboard shortcut? (Btw, the shortcut 
is the same as the one used in Emacs for activating the "minibuffer").

Note that if we remove the shortcut, someone will have to fix the 
documentation on the wiki that says things like

    Type in the minibuffer (open it with M-x): math-matrix row cols

or sometimes things similar to

        type 'M-x date-insert'

instruct the user to do something very specific by asking him to purely 
type something (i.e. no menu/dialog clicking).
