My solution is not perfect because "%A, %d %B %Y" is not correct for German, we would need "%A, %d. %B %Y" in this case.

While thinking about it I realized that we then have no other option then to use %x. The date format we set for LyX is not that important I first thought because the \today command will still deliver always the correct date in the expected format. It only has an effect when the lyxfunc date-insert is used. In this case there is no other choice then %x because also the old format was not correct for all languages.

So let's keep %x and forget my comment, sorry.
