In LyX 1.4 there is one window per process. However now one process can
have multiple windows, there should only be one running process.
I'd rather have only one window per process. This could have mutliple
buffers arranged in a tabbed widget or such.
I agree that on Windows, Single-window and Multi-WorkArea (via tabbed
widget and/or split windows) is the best idea. Once this is done, we can
remove multi-window support. But on X11, I insist that we should support
multi-windows.
