I don't understand what you mean here. The default cursor is working as
expected here: a 2-pixel black cursor between two characters.
That's not "expected", it's a regression from previous releases. It
looks awful (and is unique to lyx).
It is like this on windows since 1.3.x so I don't see any regression here.
But I agree it looks bad.
