yeah, it does (but i guess that this is secondary)

If yes, then there's maybe a usability problem.
the effect of setting rotation is also ambiguous in the current layout.
i don't know what is best, but the current dialog is really ugly and
cluttered...
Indeed. Here is what I personally would like:
Tab 1 is "Graphics": only the file name edit box and the Browse and Edit
button.
Tab 2 is "Effects": the same as the "Output" one that you proposed. The
fact that some of the effect are rendered on screen is secondary.
Tab 3 is "Clipping": the same as now. Maybe merge it with the "Effect" one?
Tab 4 is "Extra Output Options": The same as "Extra Options" now.
Tab 5 is "Screen display". This is the last one you want to touch IMHO,
it contains all effects that touch only the LyX previsualisation not the
output.
