Lars, another thing: since you have changed the code to use <iosfwd>,
I cannot compile with dec cxx anymore, since including both LString.h
and <string> in a new creative way (I do not really know what happens)
breaks compilation.

This can probably wait, but I would like it to be eventually fixed.
