I would more correctly say that it is a problem with the Qt library implemented directly using the Windows API, as the Qt library which goes through the X11 API does not have this problem, even if it runs on Cygwin which in turn runs on top of Windows. I have always stated that LyX/Qt/X11 is more snappy than LyX/Qt/Win. But this is true for 1.4, as LyX 1.3, using the same Qt/Win version, was indeed a little faster than LyX/Qt/X11. So, the slowness was introduced in 1.4. I don't know whether LyX or Qt are to be blamed, but given that 1.3 was faster than 1.4 on *nix, too, I am inclined to say that something is done in the wrong way in LyX. But why this is triggered by math formulas? When scrolling, I can say when a bunch of maths is going to displayed on screen, as the fan goes on and the cpu usage takes off vertically. -- Enrico
