prepare for prerelease

I really want to get a prerelease out now as soon as possible ( a bit
delayed...), so please hold all patches that don't fix a severe
problem (no number insets/whatever no nothing). 

So let's get 1.1.5 fixed up so that we can merge the gui indep code in
1.1.6 and continue development and cleanup.
