Does one call 512 MB "only" nowadays? For me this is a pretty normal amount.
512 MB RAM is far enough on Linux. But if RAM is the limiting factor then
you should see a lot of swapping activity. I don't know how the OS X tool
for monitoring this is named (I am sure that there is one), but if I need
more memory than I have on my linux box then I can see the swapping
activity in xosview.
