I think backporting session management should be considered seriously. Currently even the most elementary things like window position and toolbars states are not remembered in 1.4.
Unless a user knows how to hack ui files and command line parameters, the window size/position and toolbars have to be setup manually every time LyX is started. This is major usability issue.
