It was operator error. The underscores need to be spaces. (I got the
underscores from the names of the .xpm icon files that match the
commands, but apparently LyX converts spaces to underscores when it goes
icon-shopping -- which I should have realized, since the comments in the
.ui file mention arguments separated by spaces.)
Sorry, false alarm. Using spaces, I get precisely what I ought to get.
I'm still a bit surprised, though, that giving what turned out to be
nonexistent LFUNs produced what it did; I would have expected LyX just
to ignore the entries.
