It is not LyX's job to have keymaps, keyboard maps and the like. Even
dead keys is supported through the Intl/transmanager system.
I'd like to rip this out instead of redoing any of this in a unicode
context. The frontend handles keyboard input and gives something we
can use in the core.
I know that this mean removing features, but I doubt that many people
has even thought about that feature for a long time.
So imho, keyboard maps, keymaps and the like should disapear, the
frontend/windowing system should handle composing chars and dead-keys.

How dare you think about removing a feature before making sure similar
functionalities would be possible with unicode?
Can't you encapsulate your new code with #if, #endif and let the old
running code stay in parallel?
