That would have made the cleaup part of the work quite a bit harder...
I don't think so. I think most of the code would have stayed unchanged
(modulo string to docstring replacement) if we had converted the support
classes and methods right from the beginning. I am talking about
Alert::etc(), bformat(), _().
I am changing Alert::etc() and bformat() right now.
