| Hi all,
|
| Greetings.
|
| I am a final year student doing Computer Science at the University of
| Botswana. My final year (which ends in April 2000) involves designing fonts
| for the Hindi language. I have used Metafont to design the fonts and
| successfully done so. The last part of my project involves showing the fonts
| in an editor in a WYSIWYG manner. Latex and Tex can use the fonts because
| the Hindi fonts are in the '.tfm' file format. After intense research on the
| internet for 2 weeks I found the amazing front-end to Latex -- Lyx. Also I
| read in the manual that the developers of LyX are thinking of including
| Asian languages.
|
| I would love to make and contribute to a Hindi LyX. For that I need some
| help. How can I incorporate the tex metric fonts in Lyx so that a user can
| see the Hindi characters as one types on the keyboard. Please help. If it
| works, and after completion of my project, I will gladly contribute my fonts
| and Hindi LyX (god willing) to the original LyX system.
|
| Thank you very much. If you cannot help in this context, please direct me to
| someone who can help.
|
| Thanks again
| regards
| Rachna Grover

Currently LyX cannot use .tfm directly but uses postscript font s for
the display. If you are able to creat postscript fonts out of the
metafont you have created LyX will be able to use it.
